East coast artist Mitchell Bailey is making big waves in the Canadian hip hop industry with his latest release, Season One. There's no doubt about it, Season One has been a break through success. The EP charted on I tunes top ten albums in the country upon it's release, placing himself next to the likes of Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj and Eminem. The five song EP features production from in-house producer Sean Lewis and as well as cuts from producer Dylan Guthro. I'm a fan of the 5 track EP release strategy, from front to back this project knocks with no filler.
Mitchell does a great job of combining golden era boom bap styles with a contemporary twist. Old heads are going to dig this project, and at the same time Mitchell brings the heat for new wave listeners. A perfect example of this marriage of sounds is "Open Book." The 808's carry the track and are complement by the traditional sped up vocal sample that drives the track home. "6 Million ways 2 die" has that classic dollar and a dream hip hop vibe and is placed right next to "Luv Don't Exist"which is an 808 heavy ballad for the new school.
Season One is a hip hop heads dream project. Be sure to check the project on your streaming platform of choice and share your thoughts with us.
